Tv tuner

I have a HP dv7 laptop w/ Vista. I need a tv tuner and am trying to decide between an internal and external tuner.

I want to be able to use the tuner while use the computer for there things, more or less not a resource hog.

With the internal tuner: I like not having another item to keep track of or breaking.

External: The flexibility of being able to use it on another computer

Kind of an even draw.

What are your opinions?

 

i think you are limited with a laptop, and an external usb one is prolly your only option. i bet things like high def would slow it down more.

 

If it helps, I'm going to be moving around in a dorm style setting, anywhere around the country and maybe world for work and most places that i well be staying wont have tvs in the rooms.

Being mobile is key.

 

The SmokinGun is right. Having a laptop limits your choices to an external tuner. But as you can see at this link:

There are quite a few.
The only advice I would offer would be to get one with a decent remote control. You will thank yourself later or kick yourself if you get one without a remote....

 

Oh HP offers a internal tuner for my laptop.

 

Really? Would that involve sending them your laptop for them to install it? And for how much $$$?

 

They mail me the components and its up to me to install it. But only so many computers are compatible. I think it is around $90+

 

Well, then you need to decide what you want. Do you feel comfortable taking apart your laptop? Or for around $95 you can get the diamond ati hd tv wonder external unit which would just be plug in to a usb port, install software and your all set.

 

My neighbor let me barrow there external tv tuner. I'm going to go with external, wow it generates a LOT of heat. Thanks
