tv-tuners fails after installing DirectX 9.0b

My tv-tuner stopped functioning after updating to DirectX 9.0b.
According to some newsgroups the troublemaker is a file in DirectX, named kstvtune.ax (version 5.3.1.902). This file has to be replaced in system32. Replacement doesn''t work, the trouble-maker keep coming back. System Restore isn't possible because I lost all my restorepoints (a Mystery to me).
Anyone a usefull idea????? Please!!!!!! Reinstallation isn't a
usefull option, where do I leave 100 GB??? 25 DVD's????

Thank you for having this problem.. Was wondering where to start with the same problem. I had forgotten to check after the dx 9b install for problems..

Description
This hotfix is a classic case of Microsoft making tweaks to an update and creating new problems in the process. DirectX 9.0b was released on in July 2003 to address the MIDI security issue discovered in earlier versions of DirectX. Even though Microsoft mainly pushed the 9.0b download as a security fix, they slipped in a small number of non-security fixes. One of these 'fixes' caused several TV Tuner capture card/driver combinations using video formats other than NTSC

Thanks, Bucko. But I found the solution already two weeks a go. No wonder no-one reacted, cause it was mainly a problem outside the USA. This so-called intensive labtesting at MS before releasing patches doesn't seem to hold anything.

Does the TV card work if you turn it off?


Legit question, MS has a hotfix on this.

Edit: Missed that you already fixed this.



MS DOES have a hotfix for this issue with HT CPUs though.

No, I haven't got Hyperthreading. As mentioned, I already found a Hotfix at the site of MS. The problem did only affect tuners with
a PAL -TV-system, a system you don't have in the States and therefore weren't experiencing the problem.

Just yesterday, I installed Dx9.0b. I have a Pinnacle PCTV Pro tuner and I use PAL system but luckily I don't seem to have any problem with it. Touchwood!
