"Tweak Files - If it Ain't Broke, Tweak It"

    I've seen references folks here have made to 3dFiles (when asked how people came to MG) and I'm wondering if Tweak Files and 3dFiles were synonymous? Since the slogan seemed very similar to the ones used here. I used to go to Tweak Files years ago and loved the site. I have no idea if there was a forum/bulletin board since I was at that time just looking for stuff to improve performance on a Win95 computer I had - went to that site on daily basis to see what's new/update, etc. and remember seeing site messages that it was closing down. If there was one there, I overlooked it. I still have some old bookmark files and followed the link - it gets redirected over to GameFAQs.

    I think I may have answered my question. When I did a Google search for "tweak files', one result is for Planet Mirror (http://public.www.planetmirror.com/pub/3dfiles/; and I know MG uses that as a mirror site) with download categories with the same description as MG's and other results show www.tweakfiles.com and www.3dfiles.com with GameSpot shown in link (but actually shows up as GameFAQs).

    If all this is true then I'll call myself an "old timer" as well ;) just a very frequent visitor during that time. :)

    yep Ken.... Tweakfiles and 3Dfiles were sites with forums run by both Jim and Tim who as you know are the founders of MGs, so you could say MGs it what I guess Tim and Jim wanted those sites to evolve into... but they will no doubt give you a better answer than I could.

    Yup, I started 3dfiles and later made Tweakfiles into a spinoff. Jim came on to manage Tweakfiles which we were forced to sell in the deal with 3dfiles, though I did not want to. Oddly enough, the roles were reversed and Jim came up with MajorGeeks and I came on as his partner... and here we are :)

    Halo - thanks for the picture of the TweakFiles page - brings back memories :)

    The funny thing about this site was the inital phone call to Tim...

    jim: "Dude I got an idea for a site -kinda TweakFiles on steriods"

    jim: "Yeah ...REALLY freakin green."
    tim: "green"
    jim: 'yeah - amn I mean jolly green freakin giant green - and the name is Major Geeks... get it?"

    OMG those were great.... I recall one day I got a tad agitated at the tone and turned the board red (with blood) to prove *I* was the really god. Not sure everyone else found that funny but man I luaghed for a couple days. ;)
