Im just about ready to format my HDD, and do a clean install of windows.

What i would like to do is:

    1) Have two log in names
    a) One for everyday usage
    b) One to run benchmarks (everything tweeked, and services shut down ect.)

Is it possible to have this setup? I have also heard of somthing...umm....hardware profiles? These should let me configure a testing setup, and a normal usage setup? I think?

Anyone care to hand out a few ideas here? Possibly how u have ur system setup?

    Thanks

rather than separate usernames, I'd create a separate partition (8GB or so) so that you can tweak to your hearts content, and not be angry if you screw up windows.

That sounds reasonable, but can i have the same copy of Windows XP on the same drive?

yep, very simple, all you need to do is create 2 partitions and you can install windows on both of them--you'll just need to change the name of one of them on the Boot Menu so you know which one is which ;)

i create four partitions .. one for windows one for my files one for game installs and the last for back up ... I find that easiest ... cause if i mess up royally i dont need put all my files back up

i just tweak the crap out of windows ... i dont see the point of making two boot partitions .. i mean what's the point of tweaking if youre not gonna make use of the performance boost?

So me having a 60GB HDD. Should i creat 4 15Bg partitions? Or like a 2Gb for windows, 30GB Games, 10BG Files, and the rest for backup?

I only create 2 on my main drive... but thats cause i have 3HDD's ;) haha

i keep my windows drive at LEAST 10-15GB, so i have room for various things, but as pyrate does, i keep my files on another drive and so on..

and Pyrate, what you said makes sense if you are tweaking for everyday performance, but to my understanding OverCooked wanted a separate 'windows' for benchmarking. when benchmarking its nice to turn off lots of features that one might want on their everyday system, so having a separate boot partition would be convieneint to strip down for max performance...if that makes sense

Yes i do want a seperate 'windows' for benchmarking. Then if i can make changes that are stable i can carry them over to my main setup. I am deffinitly going to make serperat partins. Possibly 2 15GB a piece, for the dual windows setup, and then a 30GB one for my files, and games ect.

    Thanks for the suggestions

lol ... i have two 80 gigers a 250 gig a 60 and a 120 gig ... i got WAY more space than ill ever know what to do with(course they are not all on the same machine)

my setup is in pieces currently ... but when im done ill have a (1hdd)20 gig boot partition, 20gigs for restoreIT!, 40gigs i dunno  maybe ill put linux on it, (2hdd)5gig for the page file, 75 for backup (3hdd) 80 for games, 170 for media

lmao .. i know it's overkill ... then there is my win2000 machine  i dont even use it cept when my main rig is down

i read at blackviper.com a way to back up your service settings ... but I dont remember how to do it .. as ive never tried

oh ... and a little note that your the initial partition of your drive gets the fastest performance, when i do benchmarks the "DRV1_VOL1" and "DRV2_VOL1" always beat "DRV1_VOL2" and "DRV2_VOL2" by about 1-2 MB/s .. icudk
