    Hey all,

I just got a free linksys WRT54G. I have another one setup and am using it
throughout the house, but in several locations I have a weaker signal.

I am wanting to add this router as an access point, or an extender. I searched google but came up with so many different possibilities, and searching this board also had so many queries with Linksys Router that I am not sure where to begin.

They are both WRT54G routers, and on the one that is setup and I am using everything (save password) is standard and I am NOT using DHCP so I can keep my port-forwarding settings the same for the firewall.

I am just wanting to extend the range of the wireless. I looked through the admin and settings but did not see an "access point" option.

Can someone please clue me in on how to do this.

    Thanks,

    Matt

You are not planning on having one router talk to the other router "wireless to wireless", are you? If so, that will not work. You can wire one router to the other router while turning off DHCP in the second router. It would then be possible to attach to your network with a wireless device through the second router. The second router...which is now essentially a switch will pass along the DHCP requests to the first router.

Dont forget to connect the two routers together wire one of the 1-4 ports of the first router to the UPLINK port of the second router with a straight through cat5 cable.
