I will be very soon aquiring a second tower. Now is there anyway I can link the two together to harness the power of both?

Also, is it possible to connect both up to the internet through one subscription if you know what I mean?

    Any advice most appreicated.

    Thanks

Yes you can get both your computers onto the internet. Its is easy. You can also link them both togeather with a box that when you press a certain button on your keyboard it will switch to your other computer.

It is like having two computers in one.

I am unsure on what this box is called nor do i know where to buy one. As it my friends dad who has the box and the two pc rig.

I am sure that someone elce will reply to tis as it is a pretty easy problem to fix.

So if i purchase this, and connect the two towers, can i only alternate which tower is online at any one time or have them both online at the same time?

    Cheers.

yes thats it mate. Buy something like this and it should work fine. and when you press a button eg; tap CTRL twice like on my friends it should alternate between both towers. Just check it works like that.

    Cya guys.

as for the internet problem, you need a router to connect multiple computers to the internet.

Yeah I run 4 machines through a Netgear DG834Gv2 router which enables them all to access the internet at the same time. I have also set them up on a LAN so that I can pool all the various attributes of each machine, such as shared printers, storage etc. Online gaming fun for all. Would rather use a Belkin, but you gotta go with what you have lying around.

So where can I lay my hands on one of these routers, as I would prefer both towers to be connected at the same time rather than switching from one to another.

    Cheers

Any major electronics retailer will sell a router. Assuming your in the UK try Argos, Currys, Dixons etc etc. Or go visit ebay or kelkoo http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/ctl/do/search?siteSearchQuery=router.

Belkin and Netgear both produce bog standard routers both wireless and wired that are pretty user freindly.

Cheers Bud, I have just looked at the pc I bought and apparently it comes with a Router and WIFI. Does this help make it easier. They dont really mean much to me, though a router makes the internet connection for both simultaneaously easier doesnt it?

    Regards

At a very simple level a router connects a network such as the internet to the network your computers are on. There are a ton of ways to do this. Firstly, you need to have a look in more detail at terms like wifi and router and the basic stuff [explained more eloquently than I can] can be found on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wifi
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Router.

In real terms to connect two computers to a single interent connection requires:

    a) An internet connection
    b) A router to plug into this internet connection
    c) A device to connect your computer to the router. One device per computer. These might be built into the machine already.

So long as you have these three things it should be comparatively easy to set up both computers on the same network. Each set up process is router specific, and I do not know what router you have, but google the make and you should be able to find the manual with the instructions. However, in principle what will happen will be that you will plug in the router into the internet link, ie the phone socket, set up the connection details online and then add security such as encryption, a good idea though you dont have to. Then on each machine you have to locate the network, set up a set of connection details, such as password if encrypted and off you go.

If you link 2 towers through a router can you use the same monitor? I have a router on the way and know absolutely nothing about setting these things up. I currently have a cruddy old Dell Dimension 8200, Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz processor that I would like to have linked up with my new Dell XPS 410 on the same 24" monitor. Is this possible?? Or do you need to use 2 different monitors??
Thanks. And oh yeah I am new here. First post. Love the website. Been reading it a couple days now.

Also not intending to hijack your post Cubanspy just trying to get a little more knowledge.
    Thanks again.

Yes, you can use the same monitor.. that is what the KVM switch is for..

Both computers can be accessed using the same monitor, as well as the same keyboard / mouse.

The router will enable you to have both towers on the internet at the same time.. although, using only one monitor means you will gave to switch back and forth between the two PC's.

    Hope this helps,

    Meit

Yes Belkin is the best router by far in my opinion. but when you say:

what do you actually mean?? Can you explain it more please.

Yup, no question there, I only use Netgear becuase that what I had to hand, Belkin offers a far smarter range. There are other producers of routers that are probably worth a look though...
