Two problems...related?

Hi, I have been having an issue with system restore not working (message appears as follows: "sorry but an error has occured and system restore has to close"...it won't send an error report either) on WinXP SP2.

Also, if I hit ctrl/alt/del, I used to get a screen that had tabs that showed processes, applications running and system resources used. That now only shows applications. The tabs at the top are gone, as well as the close button (I have to close it on the task bar at the bottom).

I have scanned my computer with both Norton and AVG free, as well as Adaware SE and Spybot S&D. All report nothing.

Before anyone suggests panda, I have IE 7, and anytime I want to run anything with Active X, the bar never shows up for me to download the acitive X controls.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

 

1. You should only have one Anti-virus installed, you need to uninstall either Norton's or AVG. Might be part of the System Restore problem.

Thanks for the reply.

My Norton will be expiring in a month. Will probably uninstall it and check on system restore at that time. One thing that puzzles me is that I am unable to send an error report. The error report screen shows up, but it sends nothing.


As for the second issue (task manager), I have no red mark to click on. If it is running in footprint mode, then I don't know how to restore it back. As it is now, it only shows applications running and nothing else.

 

On the Task Manager issue ust double click the gray area surrounding the list, and it will transform back to the regular design.

Check and see if System Restore is turned "on".
