Got a new HP Pavillion zv6000, which comes with the nifty little scrolling bar in the touchpad area so you can scroll the page just as if it were a wheel on a mouse...but when I installed Firefox...I noticed that the scrolling bar doesn't work in firefox!! It is fine in Explorer, but not in firefox!! So I was curious if there is a setting that i can't find in firefox, or the mouse utility, or is it simply not supported?? Even when you click somewhere on the screen it still won't scroll!! in explorer you don't even have to click on the page to engage it..it just automaticall works!!

Also...I uninstalled the free norton that came with the computer (since the free subscription expired in 3 months anyway) and installed AVG and Sygate Personal Firewall because it is free and it doesn't seem to hog as many resources as norton!! However...i've noticed that my download speed and my browsing speed has drastically reduced!! For example...I went from a download speed of 120-150 on average, to about 15- 25!!! Yes...that much difference!! And when i browse...it takes a few seconds for the page to completely load, whereas before, the exact same page loaded relatively instantaneous!! I am behind a Linksys wireless router with a hardware firewall, but that didn't seem to matter when i had the norton firewall on here!!

    Any ideas anybody!!

    Hey rog,

    New lappy, congratulations.

See if Autoscroll is checked in Firefox, not sure but that may make a difference when using the scrollbar.

Go to: Tools > Options > Advanced > Browsing

Also, how did you remove NAV, did you go thru Add/Remove?

Got the touchpad working...just downloaded, uninstalled the old driver and installed the new driver downloaded from synaptics.com!!

As far as the firewall goes...i did uninstall the NIS via add/remove programs!! are you thinking i need to use the scrubber from the symantec sight?? I thought about that, but...i didn't have any problems uninstalling it so i assumed that i didn't need it...is there still the chance there is enough residuals left to interfere with the new firewall!!??

OK. Glad you got it going. :)

No, do not use that Symantec removal tool! It seems it can cause problems with the touchpads on HP/Compaq laptops.

Not sure about the firewall issue. I have a Compaq and used the XP Operating System CD when I wanted to get rid of NAV and the other stuff.

Did you get one with the HP just in case?

WOOPS...too late...but using the symantec removal tool seemed to help!! Gues i'll consider myself lucky that it didn't mess up the touchpad, huh!! LOL

I just did a 25mb download in a couple mins, at about 150-200!!

    Thanks for the help!!
