Two simple but sticky problems

I have TWO problems that I CANNOT solve!
1. This is the most urgent. I can not open PDF files on the web (but I can if I download them and then open them)
2. I can't put my computer on Standby - the Stand By button on the 'Turn Off Computer' box is greyed out

I am using Windows XP, SP2. For the Acrobat problem I could not open some web pages this morning but I fixed that with the latest Java program from Microsoft. But it still won't open PDF's from a web page unless I download them and I still can't. I used to be able to do everything OK and it seems a big problem since I reinstalled XP (I can't ask it to repair XP because the service packs that I downloaded make the XP on the CD out of date and it won't do it.

Please help!

 

Well...for problem number 2, reinstall/upgrade your video and motherboard chipset drivers.

The forum you posted doesn't help, as they did not find a solution. Lets keep the troubleshooting advice within this forum, ok?

A lot of that stuff they just regurgitated(sP?) from an MS KB article without giving credit, anyway.
