Well its me again. And this time i've brought up an even harder trivia question.

See this thread if ur just joinin in, cause itll explain wat i just fixed etc.:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106745

Soon after i got the LAN workin, a wierd thing happened. My brother an I played some internet games, and within 20 minutes, the internet lagged out of control and crashed, not starting for another 10 minutes. We began playing, and it happened again. And Again, and again and again. Since this problem was happening before my computer stopped talking with the LAN, and quit happening when the computer didn't talk, and then started up again when my computer began working, (on top of that, I switched to another computer and we played the same games with no real problem except Lag), so to fix it, i changed my node type back. With the new node type for the IP it didn't crash. The only problem is that im robbing Peter to pay Paul, because that means my LAN on my computer doesn't work ne more.

And yes... We've contacted our internet company who said even if we're goin over our fair share of bandwith, the crashing shouldn't happen. We've also replaced the modem and other parts. Which can mean only one thing:

My Computer is evil, and its corrupting my LAN.

To make a long story short:

    1) The Internet only crashes if my computer is connected to the workgroup, and to seperate it i change the Node type. And we play A LOT of internet games, and use it for more important things too, so this needs to be at least up and runnning.
    2) If i change the node type, my LAN doesn't work for my computer. It is also the computer that is connected to the printer, so i need it to work.

What in hell is goin on? Ne help is Very Much appreciated.

PS: Could it be some # value in the registry causing my comp to try to hog the internet, and crash it when it doesn't get its way? Is it something associated with LAN/internet bandwith usage/sharing that needs to be tweaked? PLZ SAVE ME FROM MY EVIL COMPUTER!!!!!!

Have you tried a network analyzer? Here are a few free ones

    Network spy 2.0
    Ethereal
    Capturenet
    AnalogX

They will monitor IP traffic on your lan. It may be overwhelming at first but that's what filters are for. You can then pin down the From - to - port - destination - ect.. of your traffic. It may help in figuring out where your bandwidth is being used. If you are on a switch you will only see what is coming in and out of your computer except broadcast within your LAN. You will not see internet traffic hitting your router but your router log will show what is coming in if its being flooded from the outside.

Simply put, you think the problem might not be my computer entirely, and the problem is coming from an outside source (or another computer that hates my computer on my LAN), which causes the Bandwith usage to skyrocket and crash theinternet, and that something has something to do with my computer being on the workgroup. Am i Right or still confused? and im a little short on time during the week (finals comin up and the teachers are squeezing everything they haven't finished in), so this might not be tested for awhile. Just keep postin ideas while i wait for some free time.

    TY

You got it in a nutshell, it could be any of those.... An anlyzer will show all, you just cant hide packets from it. If necessary, you could load it on all computers, it will not hurt anything. They run in what's called promiscuous mode, non intrusive or just monitoring ect..

Just curious....(theoretically) if i find out that what your suggesting is correct.... what can i do about it? Block the IP? Firewall tweak?

o yeah i just learned that whenever the crash happens, i dont have to be playing WOW or something: if i am on the internet surfin hard, and another computer is doing the same/playin a game, it'll crash if i have the node type set to unknown.

BTW i tried setting the node type to something else on all computers, but it didn't work :(

You are the guy with the nVIDIA Firewall, did you uninstall it completly, not just disable?

Do you have a Cable/DSL Router? I.e how do you share the Connection?

Yes, the firewall has been obliterated. (Que evil laugh)

I have a satellite internet modem (yea, its true). We share it thru a router (NETGEAR RangeMax NEXT Wireless Router WNR834M).

Gaming and Satellite connection does not go so well.

Could be that two gamers at the same time is too much for the system.

Maybe. But i think the conditions are too backward for all the blame to be put onto the internet:
