    Hello everybody,

I just got a new video card, a 1gb force 3d radeon hd 4650, and when i installed it and connect the vga cord from my monitor to it, i just got a blank / black screen and could not even see the bios options to hit delete to goto bios settings.

Its works when i switch it back to my onboard video card, so i figured i need to disable the onboard card in BIOS, there is not option just an option to boot from PCI express slot first before the onboard chip, so i selected that saved the bios config and when the pc rebooted it was just a black screen again with both the onboard and new video card this time. So since i could not access the BIOS anymore I had to take the CMOS battery out, and put it back in to reset the BIOS settings to work with my onboard card and took the new card out.

I am beginning to think either my new video card is defected or my motherboard does not support it and need some expert advice..

this is my new video card

I have DDR2 ram in my PC so i would think it would support a DDR2 video card also.. it fits perfect in the slot on the motherboard and the fan spins on the video card when its plugged in, i have never had trouble like this installing a video card. Any help is greatly appriciated, thank you

btw; I am running ubuntu juanty if that makes a difference, i would think no matter what os i would still be able to see the BIOS start up atleast if it was working properly

    Hey there

I would be Careful if you actually purchased that Card from Ebay...They could have Shorted the card and then just put it up on Ebay saying that it is a working card.

The other problem i see is that I have never heard of Force3d before...as a graphics card company. I have never seen them on Newegg or on Tigerdirect.

Now to the hardware problem. Did you try reseating the video card in its slot, as well as trying the DVI port? Another question is when you touched the card(if you did) after you powered the pc down...how warm was the chipset. If you are not feeling any heat from the card then it could one of two problems. You could have a Defective card or a defective pci-e slot. I would find another Pci-e card(ask a friend or something) and put it in to test the slot. If that video card doesn't work in the slot then you might have a fried slot.

Another thing that could be the problem is your PSU, it might not be powerful enough. But then again that card probably doesn't have high power requirements.

EDIT- Can you post Close-up pictures of the Circuit board? If you can that might help as well.

Hope this helps and sorry for the length of this.

Thanks for being the only one to offer help! :)

Well.. I could not figure it out, I reformatted from Ubuntu Jaunty to Windows 7, then brought it to the geeks sqaud and paid 50$ to have them fix it. They say they can not gaurentee anything on Windows 7 OS because its still in beta, but i took a chance with the 50$ and they got it done.

From what I know now is my case is very odd, prob cuase it was made in china, i have to unscrew a bunch of cr4p to put the screw in to secure the pci-e card.

I am going to relook at my bios settings, it did not work for me but geeksquad got it done, so obvious it was a fault on my end. I learn something new everyday, theres todays lesson, even though it cost me 50$ to learn it

anyways , im happy with my dual screens to my hdtv now and can try out warhammer online hehe

one more question i guess, is how to change which monitor is 1st or 2nd.. its weird, my vga monitor id the one in front of me but i have to drag the file all the way to the left, for it to go onto my hdmi tv screen. Its like the opposite of how it should look, i should be dragging it to the right side of the screen to go onto the tv.. any ideas? thanks!

Right click on your Desktop Then go to settings. You will see where you nornally will see one monitor two monitors with a the number one and the number two on them. You will see under the Screen resolution two options.

Extend My Windows Desktop to this screen
    And

    Make this my Primary Display

Click Primary display for The one that you want as Monitor 1.
Then click extend desktop to this monitor on monitor 2.

    I've had a Force3d video card.
    It was actually pretty good.

I think your problem was in the BIOS it was set to use the onboard .

Sometimes the BIOS have to manually changed to boot from the video card first.
Sometimes the onboard has to be disabled .

Most of the time a motherboard will default to the video that is attached to the monitor but not always
