Ubuntu 7.10 Help

Hello All

My Windows XP is corrupted so I was in the process of installing Ubuntu 7.10 on my computer. I get as far as choosing the language and if just freezes there. It wont go any farther...any one have any solutions for me....

 

Do you have per chance a hardware failure? hard drive or even like I suffered for 8 months- an unseated memory stick.

You have XP corrupted, but that will not create errors in installing Ubuntu or Mandriva, or any other Live/Install Linux distro.

 

Is it loptop or a PC ? Anyhow My Philosophy is that if something is not working (or corrupted as The Word You Used) Do a Major Cleaning...Get rid off XP then format the whole disk and do the most important cleanup. Which is your MBR..MBR stores info and files for ages..Some are overwritten but rarely..There are utilities that recover partitions long gone or clean MBR or delete the files or info..Formating or deleting partitions is the most over-rated thing, in terms of getting rid off old info..After You do all that. Then I just don't see a reason for stalling (unless your hardware mainly board is bad) During Ubuntu instalation..Use the Alternative Ubuntu and slice your disk to your liking..Make 1 or 2 partitions FAT 32 for your new windows..For XP location doesn't matter ( 1 must be primary) for older Windows /Sda1 is the choice..Also It is not the rule but the closer Ubuntu be to # 1 the better...I unstalled Ubuntu on 5 partitions /opt and /var as a extra ones..And While You do all this, make sure you make extra attributes for yourself..on all partitions.....Bottom line, Ubuntu is stalling becasuse it discovered something for which had no ready pop up for you..or went into the loop.
