I am trying out my emergency virus fixes, and just want to try out Firefox on Ubuntu from a boot cd, for online banking stuff.

I can bring up the Ubuntu message from a bootable CD I made (ISO file) but it just stays there when I click on the first menu item. (Try without installing)

Is it just that it takes more than 10 minutes to load into memory?

No, it shouldn't take that long. I found that burning at faster speeds than 1x sometimes creates a bad CD/DVD. This has been happening to me through various MS OS's and hardware.

how much ram have you got ?
    this could be the reason

As far as a bad CD goes, the screen does come up with the choices of what to do.

I have 1 gig ram on an old Dell 8200, P4 2.1 I think, nothing special, but its 'Linux'.:-o

    that should be fine,

you could try the cd in another system, if it fails on that one as well then you've probably made yourself a coaster

while you may have burned yourself a coaster, as suggested by others, another explanation MAY be a graphics card driver.

the only way to find out for certain is to try in a different machine. if it works, it's your graphics card. if it doesn't work, it's a bad burn, or a corrupted download. download again, verify the checksums, burn the cd, and try again.

    good luck!

Tried it on the other computer, same- I can get the menu, but if its a bad burn, why does it show the menu item? Keyboard works with menu. Disk spins if I click on one or the other, slow to get back to keyboard.

Doing another ISO burn with CDBurnerXP

How do I do Checksums? Just read that in A+ but no details. Thanks

i only use linux and k3b does an auto md5 sum so you can check it,

however, there is a windows tool here

    http://sinf.gr/en/hashcalc.html

never tried it as i have no reason to, so i can't vouch for it

Make sure your bank supports Firefox and Chrome. If you are wanting to secure your desktop, I recommend the Malware Section instead of "trying Linux."

Have you tried Low Graphics Mode at boot? Note response #2

Yes, my banks support firefox- Its been 8+ hours, and my burner is still burning the ISO image, how long does this take? It says 48X, but 'time remaining' window has been stuck on 00:00:00

Actually, Im just trying to learn A+ right now, which is a huge task, I just want linux for Firefox on Disk, so its more secure. Not that I do too much 'bad browsing' now, but I am looking at alot of computer sites, and you never know whats gonna git ya.

Ok, that didnt work, CD disk did not burn anything.

Properties on the ISO image I downloaded say '0', found an old ISO image, not sure why I can't find these. So I will try , these are over 600 MB.

I would try to do a re-download of the ISO and use ImgBurn to burn it. ImgBurn has never done me wrong.

Ok, well, I have the old 10. ISO and that burned in a few minutes. Loaded, and got Linux Firefox after "F-ing" around (literally:wave) a few times.

So I guess I should check the ports with Shields up next time I load it, see if its secure. It worked just fine, if not a little weird but close enough.

So is this really really secure in terms of non traceable, non-keylogger available?

depends what you mean by non-traceable

and even an installed system is highly unlikely to get a keylogger without the user installing it
