ok, well I got a new comp and installed Ubuntu and have an Ubuntu / XP partition set up....but I'm having a few problems...I ran all the updates, its fully up to date.

one problem I have is the reolution...its set at like 1280...I want it at 600x800...but everytime I try to change it, the screen flashes and logs me off, then when I sign back on...nothings changed.

another problem is MP3's and DVD playing...

It says I need to install some kind of codec to play these....how do I go about doing this?...

and the last problem is setting the time to sync with internet servers...it says I need to download and install some updates...well, I downloaded them...but Idk how to go about installing it/ where its at/etc...

EDIT: Got the servers sync to work, but still need help with everything else.

    any help?

    thnx.

I used the Update Manager (System- Administration- Update Manager) to update Firefox and it did it for me. (Lazy and ignorant about Linux).

Ubuntu can be a bear to configure for the first time user you may wish to try PC Linux os as it is geared towards the windows crowd---everything already configured and installed --codecs etc... just a thought
