Ubuntu Log-in

    Hey Guys,
    I have acquired an HP Mini 1000 series netbook, with Ubuntu installed on it(version I'm not sure of). My friend wants me to see why it won't connect to a wireless network, but I don't know the password for his account and I can't get a hold of him to ask...He was logged in when I first got it earlier tonight but the battery died and when I plugged it in it came to the log-in screen. If there is a way to get around the password so I can work on it for him it would be greatly appreciated.
