Ubuntu & The Internet

Hopefully this forum is more helpful than the dedicated Linux forums where they seem to get bored of helping midway.
My problem is despite trying numrous solutions I just cant do more than ping websites in ubuntu though the connection is fine in XP.
My router is a D-Link DSLG624T and Im with BT broadband who insist on PPPoA encapsulation while Ubuntu wants PPPoE.
I dont know if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply but Ubuntu forums was one of the offenders I mentioned.I did sort it myself though.It was a simple change of the Ecapsulation Mode.

I encountered the same problem with a D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL modem/router, that is basically the same model as yours, and ubuntu 6.10.

Is your DSLG624T running the latest firmware?

Upgrading the D-Link DSL-G604T to the latest firmware solved the problem, as there was a fix for IPv6 requests sent to the unit.

I'm using PPPoA also on the D-Link (my ISP here in Australia offers both PPPoA & PPPoE) with the ubuntu box (I'm writing this post on it in fact!).

I did the firmware upgrade under Windows XP / Explorer 6 though.

If its pppoa, your ubuntu should just be set to use dhcp to get an ip, as your dlink should be doing dhcp
