Hi all. Recently installed Ubuntu Dapper Drake. Was making changes in the xorg.conf. Accidently put in Endsection twice in one area. Now it won't load up because of this. I've tried safe mode and navigating to the correct directory. However, it tells me that there is no such directory as /etc/x11. So I am not able to edit xorg.conf and get it up and running! Any ideas? Only other thing I can think of is burning a live cd and accessing the file from there. Thanks in advance!

    Type:

    locate xorg.conf

    See where it finds it.

If it doesn't, cant you use apt-get to get it again?

locate did find it. It was then that I realized my problem was that I had been typing x11. When I needed to be typing X11. I didn't realize that it had to be capital X! D'oh! Thank you again for your help!

Thanks for the info Bored! I would have tried that but I am at my brother's house and the Live Cd is at my house. I brought the computer to my brother's house to hook it up to his 46" HDTV. It's great surfing the web on it! Anyway, I'm enjoying messing with Ubuntu. I still have XP on the system and Ubuntu is just for fun. When I was young I enjoyed playing games. Now I enjoy messing with the computer more. Working with the Terminal reminds me of the old dos days. It may not be as easy to use as XP. But it is satisfying when you learn how to get things to work!

DawnPatrol, I have a XP drive, and a XP laptop. I did boot the XP drive last week- first time in about 3 months. I cannot remember when I last even booted the laptop. Maybe in October when I moved here.

I do anything on my system I could do on the XP side, except it is very stable. Yes, nice when it all works!

    :D

I was surprised that Ubuntu automatically recognized my mp3 player. I was also able to charge my cell phone. Under Windows it wouldn't charge until I had the software that you have to buy for the phone. I'll definately keep using it. And tweaking it!
