I am not sure if this is a problem with my computer or router but my connection goes down and i have to keep rebooting in order to have a connection. I am tempted to reformat. I am wondering if this is my firewall causing a problem by turning on lockdown without me telling it to. Thanks for your help.

I am running Windows XP The router is a NETGEAR WGR614 v7
My network card is NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller. Driver Version 50.2.4.0
I am going to try to update the drivers.

I did try to update them and it said it was latest.

    Cables are all secure.

    Also if i run
    ipconfig /release
    ipcofnig /renew

It works a few times and then i have to reeboot. It just went down a second ago. Ugh this is so annoying.

Just made sure they were secure. Unplugged them and put them back in.

Any power options available in the properties?
Power Save Mode or Wake on Lan possibly enabled?
Does it do the same thing in Safe Mode with Networking?

if you suspect the firewall, have you disabled it? have you tried resetting your router (meaning unplugging all connections, and reconnecting)? have you contacted your isp to see if they have outages in the area, or have them check your connection? also (in case i missed it), is this a wired connection? - sos

Well i disabled DHCP and manually assigned the IP, Gateway, DNS, and Subnet Mask. For now its seems to be ok so it may be that the DHCP is screwed up. I hope this solves it once for all. If not ill repost here. And yes its wired.

I think i may have found my problem. When i end the mcnasvc.exe process my network comes back. It is also using like 50% of my CPU when the process is running. I did a little digging and i found that this belongs to the network manger in McAfee. I don't think this will harm me. I hope that this will end the fighting and frustration i have been having the last few days. I will repost if i have more problems. Thank you for your help so far.
