Somehow, a bird got into our house last night.

    Thats right, at night.

    I don't know how.

Anyway, I caught it after chasing it for 10 minutes and took it outside.

Well, we looked around, no obvious bird...stuff.

Well, guess what my daughter found.

    Guess where she put it.

    Guess what she did.
--Screamed, it apparently didn't taste good.

We washed her mouth out, and I tried to make her gag (finger down the throat, sure did piss her off).

I don't think she swallowed it, but we are still dealing with the doctors and poison control on this one.

Its not what she put in her mouth, but my fear of diseases and bacteria from/in it.

Too bad you had already chased out the bird, it may have proved helpful to the doctor to be able to send it for testing.

Well, good luck. Hope she's OK.

Yeah, the bird was long gone before my daughter got into it.

She seems fine. I am crossing my fingers. My first child--I'm paranoid.

My oldest daughter decided to sample the contents of her diaper when she was little. The Dr. recommended ipecac(she had a few teeth by then) and keeping an eye on her. I'm sure things will turn out OK for you, too. From mine and others experience, it usually doesn't happen twice.

I'm sure she'll be fine, probably healthier for it!

    Immunity against ...stuff. *shrug* :)

    ROFL.

Call back from the doc--Arizona is not a state where birds carry parasites in their poop.

So they said just watch for any signs of sickness and she should be ok.

Good news. :) In London, it probably would have been instantaneous.

At least she didn't develop a taste for it. ;)

It's amazing that any kids live to maturity.

And it's amazing any parents survive the journey.

Actually, bats are rather clean (not that I'd want my kids picking them up - dead or alive!). They groom themselves like cats do. The percent that actually carry rabies is extremely low. Someone would be much more likely to run into a cat or a dog with rabies than a bat. If the bat ran into your door, it was probably sick, because they've got excellent sight (blind as a bat is a myth) and in the dark they echolocate to find their way around.

We had a couple who does presentations on bats come to our church for Halloween this year. It was really cool. I found their website http://www.incrediblebats.com/index.html if you want to check it out. :)

Many birds migrate at night. He may have been destracted by lights and the sort, and got in your house. It is the tail end of migrating for many birds this month.

I kid you not, when I'm out birding and a flock of birds flies over, I make a conscious effort, as I gaze towards the heavens, to CLOSE MY MOUTH!

A frantic mother called her pediatrician at two in the morning.

"Doctor," she yelled, "My baby just ate an entire tube of K-Y jelly! What do I do?"

"Well," came the response, "if you really can't wait, call an all-night drugstore."

True. If the screen is missing from the top of the chimney, critters can get in. Lived in an OLD house years ago that suffered from that. Found out when a squirrel came down the flu and left soot footprints all over the first floor before we could herd him out the door.

No chimney, we have a furnace/AC combo unit.

We just spent 1500 clams to have the ducting replaced in the attic.

Now, there is a hole in our attic that sees the light of day, however...we cannot find any holes in the house that connect to it!

Well, maybe the bird was hatched in your house, and has lived there for months, and you just never noticed it! :D
