UIF is a MagicIso format. Just a proprietary form of ISO file to make you use their program. I believe only that program will open it. Perhaps you can look for the same file in standard iso format?

The folks at MagicISO have a free virtual CD program called MagicDisk that will mount the .UIF file as if it were already burned to a disc. You can then access all the files on the CD and copy them to your hard drive, and create an ISO from the files if needed. You can download MagicDisk from this link. Also, instructions for using MagicDisk can be found at the bottom of the download page. There is also a free converter to convert the UIF to ISO format; use this direct link. I hope this helps!

(EDIT- I just realized that Halo has linked to a UIF to ISO converter also :-o I believe the link is to the same program, but my link is a direct link from the developer, and Halo's link is from a 3rd party site hosting the file; either link is fine; the choice is yours)

    :-D

    hi,

thanks for all the help, will try all later all sounds lot of bother though just to open a single file....

why do they use such a file format anyway ? and why are there so many dif formats ?

there should be a standard across the board to stop all this happening..

or at least one piece of software that opens all formats for FREE !!!

    thanks guys for the advise.............................

To make money. MagicISO (and to a lesser extent PowerISO and UltraISO) have been accused of distributing files on the BitTorrent networks and Rapidshare (and other file-sharing networks) using their proprietary UIF format for the sole purpose of getting people to buy their software, and to generate traffic to their web site. They have also been accused of 'stealing' open-source GPL code and using it in their software without permission from the code's creator(s) and in violation of the terms of the GPL. Whether their is any truth to this, I don't know. More info about the alleged GPL violations can be found here.
.ISO is more-or-less the standard for image files. There are others like .BIN and .IMG but they are also universally recognized. Nero uses .NRG (in addition to ISO and BIN) but many other programs have no problem with .NRG files, and NRG files aren't very common and are usually just used by home users (I use NRG files here at home fairly frequently for personal use). But "why are there so many formats" is a good question. I don't have an exact answer.
