Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 "unable to open the file"

Everytime I try to open an AVI file with DVD MovieFactory, I get a window titled "Open Video File." It states

"Unable to open file [file name]

Unable to open the file."

I dont seem to have this problem with MPEG files. MovieFactory was letting me open AVI files when I installed it. As my computer is used by everyone in my household, I dont know if someone messed with the computer and did something that caused it to start this or what. I was hoping I might be able to find out how to fix this problem so it would allow me to open AVI files again like it was originally.

Also, whenever I open the "Properties" window for a AVI file and I click on the "Summary" tab, it says "Summary properties are unavailable for the selected source(s)."

As mentioned by DomLuc, try downloading VLC, that should fix your Codec/Media playing issue.
