    Hi,
Has anyone tried the Ultimate bootdisk before? I've successfully burned the ISO image into the cd-rom, but I don't understand why it doesn't boot. It won't be my hardware's problem, coz it can boot up other disk, such as windows XP. Does anyone know why?

    Thx.

    Hi,
What do you mean? You mean i can creat a bootdisk to boot up the ultimate bootdisk? Or you mean the boot disk series will do exactly the same thing as the ultimate bootdisk?

No... ultimate bootdisk is much better just boot disk series, it can test the fittness of memory as well as many other components, such as harddisk. And the test can be run on the CD instead of the traditionally floppy disk test, which is much faster. However, I don't understand why it doesn't boot. Any idea? thx.

Agreed with robo. Many of the cool utilities on the UBCD are available here or from the authors' sites. May not be as convenient as on a boot CD, but they'll still get the job done. And we are happy to help.:)

Thx guys, you are so nice.
Actually, I've tried the memory test86 before, but it took too long, and I stop that, I want to try the UBCD since it run in cd-rom which is much faster...
My problem is so strange, I've asked around, and shoot every single component, but the problem still exists.
I don't understand why after I made a new computer, and installed a fresh OS, it just doesn't boot, it freezes at the ASUS logo page, and sometimes freezes during startup; Never boot into normal mode, at most the safe mode.
I've tested that there's no fault in harddisk, powersupply, ram. But the ram is not those recommended in ASUS motherbroad handbook, I am not sure whether that cause the problem or not... Have you encounter this problem before? Any idea how to solve that? Thx.

We need some more details about your system to be able to diagnose what's going on for you. Please have a look HERE and then post back with your system specs.

    I found this on Ultimatebootcd.com
Question: The Ultimate Boot CD just refuse to boot from the CDROM drive, despite the fact that I have double, no, triple checked my BIOS settings. What else could be wrong?

Geez, I wish I know. But here are a couple of random things that you might want to check out. Firstly, are you using a CDRW disc? I have personally encountered some machines that refuse to boot up from certain CDRW discs (eg. 2x works, but 10x doesn't). Secondly, are you sure the disc is in the right drive? One user had two drives, one DVDROM and one CDROM drive. He didn't know the DVDROM drive was set to the master drive, so he was desperately trying to boot from the CDROM drive. When he discovered the problem, he simply move the disc from the CDROM drive to the DVDROM drive, and it worked without problems.

[Contributed by Jimmy Obomsawin] Another possibility that I have run into in many computers (particularly homebrew systems) is that the system searches for a boot device before the CD is read if the BIOS is faster than the CD-ROM. Since it doesn't appear to have a CD (yet), the BIOS will go to the hard drive. To get around this, many BIOSes have an option like "Power on Delay" or "Boot Delay" that lets you delay the system bootup a few seconds, giving the CD-ROM drive time to catch up.

[Contributed by Alain Vanden-Eede] I have another tip to boot properly when you can't change this delay: you switch the power on and you press the Pause key of the keyboard before or during the detection of IDE devices (in fact before the boot process), you wait a few seconds and then you press the Space bar so the detection of the boot CD is OK. I found this tip when my old computer was to slow to detect and boot on a CD.

I don't understand the problem. I downloaded this file from Major Geeks, and burned the ISO with no issues. It did boot, and gives a 300 second delay before rebooting to C:

Would you like to tell us how you did it :)

what program you used to burn it and what steps you took

it would help the rest of us :)

I extracted the image file to "my documents" folder and used the ISO feature of Nero Burning Rom to burn the disk with.

Actually, that's what I did too, I also use Nero burner to burn the ISO image, but my case is it doesn't boot at all, i've read the ultimatebootcd.com page, and there's few suggestion about why it doesn't boot, but this doesn't apply to my case.

My computer info are as follow, could anyone pls help me to solve my crashing problem, thx:

Ram: No brand.... only has a label -> N10830 (don't know what's that)
    MOBO: ASUS P4S800
    CPU: Intel Pentium IV
Video card: ASUS Radeon 9200 SE
No cd-rom, no floppy, so to isolate the problem.
Power supply: 400W ATX Power supply

The problem shouldn't relate hard disk, since sometimes it freezes at the ASUS logo page which is before the POST screen, And the hard disk works fine on the other computer. I can't boot into the normal mode, it freezes/crash during startup, at most i can get into safe mode. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thx.

I'm sorry that I can't help past this, but I downloaded the file and burned it to cd, to see if it would work because of what I read, and it did. The cdrom that the disk is in must be the master on that IDE channel, or it will not boot. I experienced this myself, changed drives with the disk and it worked!

    Hi,
    Thx for the help. ^^
I've also tried that just then, I set the cd-rom to master driver, but it still doesn't boot....

I have a question on the Ultimate Boot CD.

I downloaded the UBCD.zip file but now what?

Do I try to extract it directly to the CD; or extract it and then write it to the CD?

Unzip it and burn the ISO image file to CD. See the FAQ halfway down the page here:

    Thanks.

    Should I use a CD-R or CD-RW?

    I'd try CD-RW 1st, that way you don't start a coaster collection ;)
