Unable to access files. Help me please.

Yesterday I reset my computer to OEM specifications and tried to recover my files from a back up that I made using Nero BackItUp. The recover failed and the "my documents" folder was locked. I was somehow able to open it back up to myself, but I don't know how. I keep seeing things on how to change ownership, but every time I try to do that it reverts back to its old self. Can anyone please please tell me how to get rid of the stupid files so I put my old stuff back in there?

Yeah I wrote that pretty early in the morning. I managed to get the whole thing fixed. I found a site that had a link to a microsoft site that had some instructions on it. And a lot of that in my post didn't really make sense to me either. It was mainly me doing a lot of random clicking on my computer and then I was able to access parts of things. Very strange...
