    Hi there........

I recently downloaded and installed SP2 for my Windows XP version 5.1
and then found I was unable to access the internet- at all. I am using a dial-up connection. Any ideas how this could be fixed ?:confused

Does your modem connect? If so Are you getting an ip address? If yes can you get onto websites using ip address's as oppose to using the sites name so for google.com you would input 74.125.95.99 into your browser. If using ip address works try uninstalling Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748).

You might need to fix TCP/IP

    Go here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
you can download the fixit file on a working computer then move it by a USB stick to the non-working computer and run it.

Thanks for the answers........... but I have to confess, I got desperate to use the internet and reinstalled windows XP and now it works, but now I can't download SP2 (from the Microsoft website), internet explorer 7 or upload photos (the computer just "Hangs") before transmitting the files. I can download somethings i.e. firefox and am able to download music.
    Help
