Unable to access internet

  1. :confused When trying to open a link either by clicking (from trusted source), by copy & paste; or by selecting Internet from the menu, I can get to the first page of my quest. After that all I get is a clink clink noise on any selection I make. The only way I am able to close the Internet is through the task manager and believe me when I say that even that is difficult.
The only error message I receive is when trying to get in through a link and it informs me: "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=131799" File not found. If I am persistent and click on the link several times, I will get to that page, but can go no further. I have no problems with email though?

So far I have tried using the 'backup & restore' option to no avail. I am running a Dell Vostro 220 desktop with Vista and IE 7. It has been set back to factory settings twice in the past two months now, please tell me that I don't have to go through all that again????? :cry

Thank you so much again you folks and I really look forward to hearing from you. The system I'm using to send this is running XP, so I doubt I'll be able to download anything to fix the vista through here. Diane

Have you tried clearing your history and cache?

  3. Do I feel like an idiot. That's usually the first thing I advise anyone else to do. LOL I'm running the Ontrack Internet Cleanup now. Hope it works. I'll be back once oit's finished.

  4. NOPE!!! Guess that wasn't it. I'm going to take the system back a little further this time and see how it goes. Something's got to work. Thank You

  5. UPDATE: I tried to set the system back to last known good configuration. It didn't make any difference. I ran the disc to restore my system from my server and it too made no difference.
Problem Reports and Solutions showed up and informed me that it was a Windows Error and that it had been reported (no kidding). It forwarded me to the Protexis site with the information that PSIkey wasn't working. That's fine; my system hasn't worked properly since a couple of days ago when the thing showed up in an update.
Funny thing too. When I have to get out of the internet using task manager, it always shows that two internet windows are open. There is only one open, not two??? :confused
    Thank You
    Diane

  6. LAST UPDATE:
I've just solved the problem by going back to factory settings. Oh well, now the work begins. At least I'm back online. Thank you for the help.

Do you mean on your router, (factory reset), that would have been my next suggestion. Apologies btw, my sister and niece arrived unexpectedly and I got busy :)

  8. :-D Hell no; why go do only part of the job? I took the whole system back. I did make sure though that everything on board is now on that very handy 1.5 TB external. LOL Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'm still installing and replacing programs. I think that it was that stupid PSIKey that Corel snuck in with one of my updates. I'll know better the next time they try. Get thee back satan. LOL.
I think though that it is about time for bed. That's cool, I'm a nocturnal being and have always been. I need to make a phone call and then I can hit the sheets.
Everything is working fine, so keep your fingers crossed. That's the second time I've had the same problem with the internet access like that and I fixed it the same way last time. I was just hoping that there was an easier way.

I did disable the PSIKey and followed all the information on the site that informs you about the thing and it didn't help as some of the stuff they told me to do, didn't work. So, I'm back to new. Until I reinstall my Corel stuff again, and I do have a lot of it. But now I am on the alert. Going to do a back up while I am sleeping but set a restore point first.
Thank you very much though for your help.
