I recently switched from cable to FIOS with Verizon. I'm using Windows XP, with Outlook Express as my mail and news client. Although e-mail is working fine, I am unable to access their news server. My account is set up fine, and they have no idea what the problem is, but suspect it has something to do with privacy or security settings in IE6. I have that browser installed, but don't use it (I use Firefox). I understand that OE settings are piggy-backed in some way with IE, but don't really understand all that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check to make sure they have the same newsgroup server address. Some use different servers for different types of service or areas in the us. Call tech support to confirm your using the proper server settings now that you switched.

Yes, I'm definitely set up correctly. Their tech support (if that's what you want to call it) basically threw up their hands and told me to call microsoft.

Newgroups is interesting, working from a phone support person view, most of our training wax on email internet and such issues, not much about newgroups, many times you need to get sent to a "tier 2" support for a tech with knowledge about newgroups, often it seems isps offer newgroup access as an after thought.
