Getting message "Your current security settings prevent using ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly" when attempting to browse some sites that I had no difficulty in the past.

Spybot found one problem: Zonemap.Ranges This was corrected. Problem did not go away.

I run `Hijack This“ and got attached log file.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone could help decode the HJ log file.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks.com!

Please follow forum guidelines and perform cleaning steps in the sticky thread before posting HijackThis logs.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

    Hello SPD,

Ok...I have now followed all forum guidelines and performed cleaning steps as requested. I am still not able to access selected internet sites.

For example when I try to access http://java.com/en/, I get the message: "Your current security settings prevent using ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly" I also received this message when I tried to upload my HijackThis log file to your site. That is why I had to cut and paste. Having now scanned using Bitdefender and PandaActiveScan, I will try to upload all log files with this reply. I also reran HijackThis and obtained a new log file which I will also attach.

My connection is dialup so it took practically all day to run the scans.

Please let me know if you can help.

None of your logs indicate this to be a malware issue. I am moving this thread to Software; where some one will help you shortly.

    Hi!
Security level: Your Internet Explorer security level may be set too High or a custom level which does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.

To view your Security level, from within Internet Explorer, choose Tools>Internet Options, and in the Security tab, choose Internet.(Medium= Default Level)
For any Custom Level, ensure that both "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" are not Disabled. (Enable or Prompt will work).
Prompt drives me nuts ...have to constantly click OK.
Make sure you have all your Windows updates, an updated Firewall and Antivirus program.
    You should be alright then.

    ;)

Have set security level to Medium...but still have same problem.

Also tried Firefox to access sites that are presenting difficulty.

    Firefox response is:

    The connection has timed out

The server at www.latam.citibank.com is taking too long to respond.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    Any other ideas? Sabio

You can only use IE to access citibank. Citibank does a browser check and if it is FF; you will get an error message.

Hello...just as a follow up....the only way I found to solve my problem was to re-install WinXP....Now can access everything again....almost positive that I had some sort of virus that corrupted my registries. I am surprised that all recommended programs that I ran as per instruction FAQ did not recognise this. Thanks Anyway...Sabio

It may have been a virus, most likely wasn't. There are many things that can prevent internet access, a virus is only 1 of those. Good to hear you got it working again.
