    Hi,

I am running a Dell N5010 laptop with Windows 7, Service Pack 1, 64 bit. Though I have been noticing that my computer has been running a little slower over time, I was not having any noticeable issues until Sunday when my Uncle was trying to upload some videos from his iPhone to my laptop. At that point, my computer got hung up attempting to install the driver to read his phone so I restarted my computer and was unable to log in to my user account after that. When I would attempt to log in to my user account it would take at least 10 minutes attempting to sign on before I would receive the error message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." I was able to access my administrator account and run antiviral/malware scans but nothing came up. I read and followed the directions from the following microsoft website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...rofile-service-failed-the-logon-error-message to edit my registry to correct the error message. Prior to changing my registry, I attempted to create a restore point, but was unable to and received the error message "The restore point could not be created for the following reason: Access is denied. (0x80070005) Please try again". Unfortunately, changing my registry didn't correct the problem so I decided to start running the scans to start the process in case there was malware etc.

After completing the steps to the Read and Run Me First Malware Guide, I was given a couple of options before being told that the problem is not malware related. I was told that "Yes, you need to activate the Admin. account and create a new account. Your issues are not malware related so it is an issue with windows. I suggest you post in the software forum for additional assistance with creating the account and saving your needed info and passwords."

I usually back up my documents on my user account frequently, but I have been applying to grad school and had a bunch of usernames and passwords saved in my browser and was wondering if there would be any way to retrieve them if indeed I needed to create a new user account? I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Try Nir Soft utilities. One whole section on password recovery. Win 7 MSE or Defender will throw a warning but these file can be safely excluded. Read the comments and watch for the password for the files!
Recovering a few may even help you to remember some others if you use variations of the same password.

    What browser?
There are ways to show usernames and passwords in browsers, then you use the snipping tool to create a file which you can print out and have a hard copy.

Thank you for the suggestions! The browser that I am using and trying to retrieve my passwords from is google chrome. When I created another user account to transfer my files etc I received the same error message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" that I did when I would try to login to my old one. I'm not sure if the problem is software/memory/hardware/etc and was wondering if there were other steps you can recommend? At this point I am still entirely unable to login to either user account, but can still access my files from my administrator account, although I'm not sure whether it's safe to do so. My concern is if that if I cannot access or create a user account there must still be something wrong with my laptop.

Just to clarify, this is another user account in Windows and not in the browser?
If you can't log into Windows, then the browser that loads will not be associated with your user account and would not have your bookmarks, passwords, etc.

Yes, the user accounts were in windows and not my browser. While it would be nice to have my passwords/logins, that's not my major concern anymore after trying to create a new user account and having the same error occur. Because I am afraid that my original post was rather unclear I have listed below my questions/concerns.

1). I am concerned about continuing to solely use my administrator account because of the vulnerability to malware.

    2) If I am unable to access or create a user account (or create restore points), then something is preventing that and I have no idea what to do next to correct the problem.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

I don't use Chrome in Windows so I'm not sure this will work. I also did this with a portable version of a browser so I'm not sure if it works with an installed version.

I have a portable version of FF Quantum. I grabbed the profile folder from one computer and when I put the portable version on my laptop, I placed that profile in the proper place. I then ended up with all my plugins, addons and usernames and passwords on the 2nd computer.

If you own another computer (I would never try this on a computer not belonging to me) you could copy the profile folder from the "sick" computer and put it on another. You'd probably then have 2 profiles and could choose which one to log into.

To get the profile from the "sick" computer, you'd have to remove the hard drive and hook it up by a USB connector to the 2nd computer, after the 2nd computer is booted up. You'd look for the profile folder then copy it to the desktop of the 2nd computer and eventually move it to where chrome stores the profiles.

Note: I always save hard copies of usernames and passwords. If I travel, I remove all usernames and passwords and rely on typing in from scratch. If someone manages to steal the laptop, they won't get my credentials.
