Unable To Add "txt" Item To New Context Menu

I would appreciate help in adding "txt" file to the NEW context menu.

The instructions I found online are fairly straight forward and easy. But did not work.
I want to add TXT file to NEW and have it open notepad++.

I have attached pictures from the registry of the relevant keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt I suspect there is something wrong with the key definitions. Note that under the key .txt the reference to Gammadyne - this is the spell checker for notepad++ - and notepad++ must have placed this info in the key; I didn't do this.

Which version of Windows are you using? The context menu configuration changes between versions of MS Windows. So, it's likely you were using an old set of configurations that no longer work in a later MS Windows or vice-versa. If you want to create an empty text file, I think you should remove the key "ItemName" from "ShellNew." I don't know what that does, but, IIRC, NullFile tells Windows to create an empty file, and Windows processes the flags there in a certain order. However, after making the file, you will still need to open it using Notepad++ yourself. Does this help?

 

Sorry - forgot to say that I am using Windows 10 Home version 22H2

 

I sometimes have that problem, also. I don't know what's causing it, but it seems to happen sometimes on 64-bit systems.

 

Thank you everyone. Turns out the fix was very simple. The context menu had a new "INI File". Turns out this is the txt file. Just had to change "INI File" to "Txt file" in the registry.
