I am unable to connect to the internet either by NIC or wireless. nic shows packets sent, but none received. have tried several different "fixes" and read related posts here. still having problems. can i get some direction?
    Thank you very much

Have you looked at your Device Manager to see if there were any issues there?

    (right click "My Computer\properties\Device Manager)

Yes. Device manager reports both devices working properly.

    What OS are you running?

Do you have an IP, is it static or set for DHCP?

Windows XP pro sp2. Both static ip address for the nic and automatically assigned ip thru wireless. cannot connect either way.

When did the issue start happening? Is this a new computer, did something that you did started causing these issues? New firewall? New antivirus program?

Not sure. The pc was in another office and had been abandoned (probably because of this issue). When i plugged it into the LAN (using the factory nic) i got a "network cable unplugged" message. installed an aftermarket ethernet card and software. the new one is lit up (green) and showing packets sent, but none received. I also installed a wireless usb adapter to try. same problem.

Do you have a DHCP server, or perhaps are you running a router that give IP addresses? If so, change that nic to DHCP. See if that works.

Also, try Safe Mode with Networking.

Another item to try is resetting the TCP IP stack:

Bring up a cmd prompt (click start, then run, then type in cmd (press enter))

    type in the following:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt (press enter)
    Reboot
