Here's my problem. I was having a problem with the internet being very slow. I have cable (comcast) and it seems like I have dial-up. I started having problems with the internet freezing and then not being able to even connect to it. I called comcast and we went over a few things over the phone. My modem kept sending me to a 169 IP address that was "assigned" to a private user or something and the cable guy said that was not good that I had a virus or malware or something and there was nothing he could do for me. I kept playing with it and finally got a connection thru Firefox (not internet explorer). I called a computer repair shop the other day and he had me run a network diagnostics test and this is what came up:

(I just copied and pasted the info from the test)

I called Staples and they said it was my Ethernet card went bad, so I bought a new one, installed it and I still can not get online with Internet Explorer (only Firefox, and it's still slow)

Any ideas as what to do or what any of this means? I have run the Malware section of this site and I'm not seeing anything. I'm also worrisome about running and deleting things I know nothing about. (I don't need more problems...lol:D I don't know a lot about computers, so I would need simple detailed steps on how to do things.

Thank you in advance for your time and help. I really appreciate it.

This just came to me, comcast told me my IP address needs to start with the number 71 and the one I have now is 67.... don't know if that helps or not..

Do you get any errors other than "page cannot be displayed" when you open IE?

No, just that web page can not be displayed, and it's only with Internet Explorer (7)

I know IE isn't in the Add/Remove program list, so I don't know how else to do it. I read somewhere you need to have the installation disk for your OS to reinstall IE and I don't have one because this computer was given to me and I have asked for the disk and the guy doesn't see why I need it, that and I asked for it last week. They are an older couple who believes the world revolves around them and they do things when they want to. Is there another way to delete it and reinstall it?

IE7 was probably just and update on your PC from IE6... if you go to the add/remove programs lists and choose the option to show downloaded windows updates, you usually can scroll to the bottom and remove IE7. Then reinstall it.

I just went to uninstall it and it showed a big list of programs that may not work if it is uninstalled..... what should I do? I will be reinstalling it tho won't I?
