I have a file of my machine that I can not delete.

It does not have an extension, it is 0 bytes in size and whenever I try to delete it it I get "Can not delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk"

I have tried several ways (in Safe Mode, cmd line, BCWipe and some others) but same thing, I can not get rid of it.

Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

    Greetings, GFH.

We need some more info from you: what's the make and model # of your machine (please include any Service Tag #s), and what operating system version and Service Pack # are you using?

In what directory are you seeing this file? Also, have you tried managing the file with no discrete devices or drives connected?

Have you tried CCleaner yet? What is the full path to the file?

    Sorry guys

I am using Win XP home on a HP machine.

The file is in \My Docs..\Download

It has the name of a word document I once had it now merely retains the name with no extension or size. I am unable to rename or do anything with it. When I try something I get a message saying the "file does not exsist". Yet when I check the Directory (whether in DOS or Windows) it is listed.

I have tried from CMD and DEL tried SAFE MODE. I tried some third party options MoveOn Says it does not exist even tough I can navigate to it), and yes CCleaner,

    I have checked PROPERTIES.

    I'm baffled

    Thanks guys

Is the file giving you problems? Was the original word document deleted properly or did it vanish because of a crash?

It's not giving me problems. I was just cleaning up some unneeded files. Now it's becoming just plain annoying because I can't get rid of it.

The original file was in a different folder and has long since been deleted .

After months of trying finally found a solution

DOS prompt navigated to directory and merely used wildcards. I entered enough actual characters to make sure I didn't get something else DEL SURR*.*

Found the suggestion via Google and thanks to

    Thanks guys..
