Hello
I am sorry to be in the wrong forum but I could not enter the anti virus forum and did not know if I did something wrong there or if there was a reason I should attend to.

Your reply was a lot more thorough than my question. Thank you.
xp home sp3 MSIE 8.
I did not pay attention to 'read only' and now undersrtand that some forums are moderator responsive as the experts only can properly instruct those with problems.
I was asking about a free, reliable antispyware program but now realize how non specific the topic is so I won't take up time here.
I'll be back with questions of substance. Thank you for your patience.
Must learn somwhere, right?

Personally I prefer to use the excellent real-time *combined* 'Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware' protection of 'AVG 8.5 Free':

If you wish merely to complement an existing AV program, with separate Anti-Spyware protection, then I suggest the following *two* programs:

1. SpywareBlaster 4.2 - it doesn't scan but just provides blocking protection from spyware - especially if you use Internet Explorer:

2. Spybot Search & Destroy - it provides both overall system scanning for multiple malware, but through its 'Resident' protection protects you (through 'immunisation') when surfing with IE, Firefox, Opera and K-Meleon too, and provides a 'Windows Hosts File' list of blocking of dangerous sites:

NB: With Spybot please *uncheck* the 'TeaTimer' option when installing as it is heavy RAM use intensive and can be complicated. You can always enable it after if you choose.
