unable to get IP Address

good day folks. Here the situ, running another computer with windows XP sp2 and suddenly Internet Explorer version 6 stopped working. I am linked to a router via a wireless LAN card showing excellent signal and showing Connected. I have checked all the setting against another XP machine and they are all the same however still unable to access the Internet. Having done research the other machine seems unable to get an IP address. Any ideas?

 

Well, let's check the IP settings of the 'other machine'. Do this on the affected machine:

1. Hit windows key + r (or click Start --> Run)
2. Type 'cmd' (without the quotes)
3. Press enter (or click 'OK')
4. At the command prompt, type 'ipconfig /all' (without the quotes)
5. Hit enter

This will output the configuration of your network adapter. Post the results (particularly the network address, subnet mask, and default gateway), and we'll see if they are configured correctly for your network.

 

Tks yr reply - odd, (have tried this a few times) it says 'Error: unrecognized or incomplete command line'. Then a long bit about USAGE etc. Basically it is not showing any addresses.
I have also run a prog called WINIPCFG.EXE from Microsoft and that is unable to read the IP Configuration

 

Have you tried typing ipconfig /all (with the space after ipconfig ) in command prompt in Accessories ??

I have also run a Network Diagnostic Tool from Microsoft and that was unable to show an IP address on the compu.
