I cannot get any service using an air card. My hp laptop is running Windows Vista 64 bit. I have no cable service available to me and do not have a land line. I have a cell phone. None of the local air cards/express card are compatible with this laptop. Most of them use PCINMCIA cards. What do you suggest for me to be able to use my computer on the Internet? What type of express card could be used. This was the purpose of my purchasing the laptop? Any assistance would be appreciated. Please advise.

    Thank you,

I'm not sure that I understand your problem.

You bought a new computer with Vista but you don't have internet service because you don't have an Internet Service Provider? Is this correct?

Most new laptops today have a wireless adapter installed in them, usually an 802.11G. With this, you should be able to connect to any unprotected access point such as at a coffee shop or wherever free access is available. Having the wireless card in the computer does not mean that you would be connected wherever you are. It means you can have internet access wherever an open access point is available.

Look for signs that say "Free WIFI". Some examples would be Panera Bread or Shlotskys Deli.

Sorry about being so long with a reply. Had a family emergency and had to go out of town. I understand about an internet service provider but what I am trying to do is get an aircard(reasonably) that I could use my laptop at work. I cannot find an aircard that is compatible with my laptop. How can I go about trying to get one. I have tried a few providers but they are not compatible with my computer. Any ideas???? The only card so far that I can find is the PCMCIA Slot which is not compatible. Do you know of an express card provider that I could try? Sorry if I am confusing. I appreciate your assistance in trying to help me.

Air cards are related to thier respective probivers if you can not find a provider that furnish an express slot card then you are out of luck and probably need to revert to old DialUp. Or get another laptop that have regular Cardbus (PCMCIA).

On second thought I think that Verizon and Sprint do work with Express slot.

I am not sure about Vista x64 may be you would have to switch to x32.
