Unable to initiate Directx 9

I intalled latest Directx from Microsoft's website (Directx 9.0). I restarted my PC. When I try to run any games, I get this error message

'Unable to initiate Directx 9.0 device. There is a porblem with your system configuration'

I have tried to find the problem by going to Directx diagnostic Tool and could not find any problems. There are no conflicts and could not find anything wrong anywhere. I even did the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests from the tool and they were succesful. Would appreciate if anyone could help me...

Thank you for the reply. I looked at the site you (Hipster) mentioned. I could not find anything important there that could solve my problem. Also when I try to open ANY game, I get this message....

'Directx9 - Graphics System Layer 1.00' on the windows title..and then there is the error mssg. I have tried restarting my computer a lots of time. Have tried reinstalling Directx 9 from microsoft's website 4 times. While intalling Directx I don't get any error. I get this error only when I try to run any games.

Don't know what the problem could be. Has anyone ever faced this type of problem? My vidoes and sounds are fine though..no problem there.

You might have gotten a bad install, try to reinstall directx and see if that helps.

 

Thank you for the reply and sorry for not putting more information in my previous posts. Here is the information that might help you to find what is wrong with the Directx on my system.

OS: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service pack2
Intel Pentium 4
CPU 3.06 GHz
504 MB of RAM

Display Adapter: Intel(r)82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family

Besides this, I checked the Device Manager and could not find any conflicts anywhere.

I have reinstalled Directx 9 around 3-4 times now. I know this information is not enough, so please let me know what other information from my system I can provide you all with, and also how to get that information.

 

Okay, I have attached a text file with the information I got from Directx dialog box. I don't see anything wrong there, but again I'm not an expert...

 

Is this a DELL tik and if so which model ,your problem looks like a video card driver problem,what games are you trying to run,have you ran any games before you updated directX

 

i agree with rikky, you should probably update your vid drivers from your computer manufacturer's website. they are probably not compatible with dx9

 

It is eMachines. I have played games before (Need for Speed III Most wanted, Age of Empires III, Serious Sam etc) and they all ran fine. I think the problem could have occured when I installed the Need for Speed III demo and then uninstalled it. Could that have uninstalled any required drivers from my system too? I just uninstalled the demo and nothing else though.

After uninstalling Need for Speed, I have tried to install and play various games like crashday, movie tycoon and some others, but none of them work. If I need new drivers like you mentioned, how do I know which one and where to find them? Where do I look for that?

Run Everest. Then take a look & post back what video card you are running.

 

i have same problem , my lap top toshiba m70 340 but it has 1536 mb ram centrino 1.7 and our video card in same familiy intel r chipset 945 gm 915 bla bla lba... i can play most wanted and command conqurer series but i can not play nfs carbon or crashday and when i wanted run thats game give a unable to initiated direct 9x , system .......

i guess we r post more mail to intel

 

start run, dxdiag and post if it says any errors in the second tab.

 

I am having the same prob right down to the menu bar saying that, and so far we have tried the same game...... Crash Day...... plz help

 

Also i tried all the test and they were all succsefull
