Unable to Install Windows XP Pro

I am attempting to set up my computer with dual boot into Vista or XP. I have created a 10 GB partition on my hard drive to be the drive that XP resides on. I already have Vista installed on the other partition on the drive. I am using an OEM XP Pro disc to install XP. I am able to put the disc in and do the initial boot from the disc to format the drive and install the initial files. The computer then requires a reboot. When the computer reboots I get the message press any key to boot from cd since the XP disc is still in the drive. I do not hit anything so that I can continue my XP installation. After that time passes random letters pop up on the screen (k, and an arrow are 2 that I remember and the computer freezes. If I attempt to boot without the cd in it just hangs and never boots to anything. The only way I can get back in to my PC is to put in the Vista disk and repair the startup and then it boots into Vista. I initially thought it was my video card but I have removed it and attempted the install with the same result so that is not the issue.

My computer is an HP with and AMD Quad Core 2.30 GHz
7 GB Ram

Yeah that is the guide I am following. On my previous machine I had no issue setting up a dual boot with Vista installed first. I tested on my laptop and had no issues. On the laptop I did the initial setup with formatting the drive and all that fun stuff restarted and booted to the installing XP screen. On my desktop doing the exact same thing causes a freeze before it can get to the installing XP screen. When I say installing XP screen I mean you see the XP logo and the scroll bar for loading and then install XP. On my desktop I never get to the XP logo and the scroll bar.
