I tried this and after step 2, nothing happened. I have been working on this problem for 5 days now. When I go into "safe mode with networking", I can use Netscape 9 to work on the WWW. IE7 seems to be blank on some pages and I really can't do as much with it as I can NS9. When I go to my CP and click on the "user accounts" i get a Internet Explorer "script error and the pop-up screen is blank. I do not have a WinXP CD as the OS was Preloaded on my PC and the recovery files are on my partition "D" drive. I need help bad as I can't use my printer in "safe mode and my sound card does not work either. I can't get into my "Outlook Express" either. Luckily I have webmail for roadrunner and can check my e-mails. All help is appreciated. Quote:
>1. Log on in safe mode
>2. Go to Start- run- then type in "control userpasswords2" and ok
>3. Check "users must enter..." this will allow access to accounts.
>4. make sure you know the passwords then restart in normal mode and log in.
>5. Go to Start- run- then type in "control userpasswords2" and ok
>6. highlight your account (not the default administrator account)
>7. uncheck "users must enter..." a password screen will pop-up.
>8. type in password and confirm password. then apply
>9. close out and restart computer. Unquote!

Hi and welcome to Major Geeks. :wave

I'm assuming you aren't able to log on normally in any user or administrative account? Any ideas what led to this problem? Is the account you are trying to do this with an administrative account? Do the instructions say anywhere that it needs to be? Have you run through scanning for viruses?

You'd be wise to be careful surfing the internet in Safe Mode - there's a good chance that your security software won't be fully functional.

And if you want to quote text so it shows up separately, you can use
at the start and
at the end but without the spaces before the end square brackets to get this:

If you have any reason to suspect Malware, run through that thread. If you're pretty sure it isn't, post back with more details on anything that was going on prior to this and what, if any, other things you have done to try and solve the problem. :)

I finally had to resort to calling the PC manufacturer, HP. They researched my problem, and found that I was missing some important system files related to password encoding.
I fixed the problem by doing a recovery format and re-installed XP.
Thanks for the response.
