Unable to open some folders , but can open programmes.

It started a few weeks ago- Windows Explorer would announce that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Will then spontaneously open.

About a week ago, if I want to open a folder or some of the startbar items or folders on the desktop, or Explorer, it moves to the taskbar and I cannot open it.
It can open a programme- e.g. if I click on Image Burn, it will immediately open.

I use AVC security as well as MBAM. The errors that it showed, I corrected. I downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 trial, ran it, but no luck.

Any advice?

 

Never used it myself but a couple of ppl here have used THIS recently with success. It restores most, if not all of Windows default settings. Let us know how it goes.

I started with MBAM and actually found a virus (my son does download torrents, but he is normally good)

The others did not show anything, but eventually at the last step there was a lot to fix.

It might be this clickpotato, but the folders still do not open

 

You running on a pirated Operating System? Won't get help on MG's.
