Unable to remove a file

I am unable to remove a file on my laptop as it states the file name is larger than that is supported by the file system. I am using Windows 7 and have run all of the anti virus, spam, malware program (Avast, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, Glary Utilities, CC Cleaner), so I don't think it is anything malicious. I cannot rename the file in Windows nor DOS, I cannot remove or move the file in DOS as I get the same error. When I right click on the file, the DELETE, PROPERTIES, RENAME, CUT, COPY as well as some other options are not there.

I have rebooted the computer numerous times and tried removing it the first thing after it rebooted to no avail. I can rename the folder the file is in but not delete the folder itself, as I get the same error.

If you are familiar with DOS try a dir /x command in the folder containing the file. That should give you a short name for the file ie. filena~1.ext
You might be able to then delete the file using that name. del filena~1.ext

 

what the name of the file? I knwo you said you could rename it, but can you maybe try moving the location of the file. What is the error msg. you are getting? I'm not at home right now but I'm pretty sure Tweak VI has a file remover as well. http://www.totalidea.com/product.php It also has ALOT more spiffy features. Do you have unrestricted access to your PC?
