Had problems with main (someone else's) laptop, connecting to wireless router, laptop wireless connection fine. Tried to fix the problem by degrading the wireless security via my laptop. Had problems but eventually just reset the Wireless Virgin Superhub - other laptop now fine, but mine now unable to connect. Or rather, it seems to connect fine, the problem is with the IP address. Phoned VirginMedia tech support and they think the same - it's a problem with my laptop obtaining the right IP address, not a problem with their hardware.

Laptop able to connect and work fine with other wireless networks. Windows XP used. Also works fine when using ethetnet. IP address when connected with ethernet begins 192. IP address with laptop that works wirelessly identical, except for last digit.

At some point in the proceedings with Virgin Media tech support he asked my IP address at the current time (while going through various procedures) and he was surprised that it was all zeroes - was at that point that he said that the problem was with my laptop...

    any help gratefully received

You could try uninstalling the network adapter and rebooting to see if it works then. (START > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Expand Network Adapters, right click adapter and choose uninstall. Close out and reboot machine to see if reloading drivers will solve the problem.

Have you tried setting a static IP address for the laptop?
(START > Control Panel > Network > right click connection, choose properties, choose TCP/IP in box, hit properties below, turn off Obtain IP address automatically.)
Copy the same IP address information as your other comp except for the last digit range and use xxx.xxx.xxx.250 for example. You do need all the other settings also - subnet mask, default gateway and DNS servers addresses.
You can get all this information by going to the working computer and running the ipconfig /all command from the command line.
(START > Run > type cmd in the box and hit enter. Type the above command, hit enter and you will get all the IP information you need.)
