Unable to start windows and escape out of Safemode screen

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but i have been having lots of problems running adaware and avg after possibly being infected by a worm called Win32 Lovgate. I have posted various threads in the relevant forums concerning this. After following various advice i removed this worm and used various online scans to prove it.
However things have gone from bad to worse. After running the Pc for hours yesterday and only having problems with adaware and avg as mentioned previously i switched on a few hours ago and it would not start. What i mean is it went straight into the safemode black and white screen. It would do nothing whatever option i chose in that screen, basically it was locked in that screen and windows just would not start. It started counting down for windows to start but just kept on rebooting itself into this safemode screen.

My knowledge is such that i do not know what to do next. Please help me because i feel like throwing this PC through the window.
I dug out my old PC running on windows 98 and set it up to access the internet so at least i could get access to you guys and maybe sort this problem out.

Sometimes when Infected by bugs & virus the simplest solution is to just reformat and reinstall the OS.

 

If you are running XP OS on the problem PC have you tried to boot from cd and do a ''Repair''
