XP Pro, SP2. ECS K7s5a Pro motherboard, onboard lan. Have disks. Retail version. Not OEM.
I have a exclaimation mark in my network adapters on the "Packet scheduler miniport 4".
It says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but the error message says "Unable to uninstall. This device may be required to boot the computer".
Clicked properties and I tried to update driver from my motherboard utility but it doesn't seem to fix it.
Does anyone have the path I can look in on my cd so it reloads the driver or whatever it needs.
Can someone explain just what this driver does and how to fix it?
    Remember, I cannot uninstall it!
    Thanks

Go to Add/Remove Programs and see if your network drivers are listed. If so, uninstall them and reboot. If not, go to the device manager and uninstall the network adapter that's giving you the problem. Then reboot. After the PC has rebooted, reinstall the full network driver from the CD and reboot again. If this doesn't work, post again and we'll try some other stuff. As to what the driver does: I'm not 100% sure, but I think it helps with the flow of information through the network adapter and regulates it so things don't get piled up or spread too thin; it keeps the flow nice and even which would maximize the speed of the connection. How to fix it? Well, we're going to try. ;) Follow the steps outlined above and let us know if it works.....
    :-D
    Good luck!

Thanks but please re-read my post. It won't let me uninstall. -"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but the error message says "Unable to uninstall. This device may be required to boot the computer".
And by the way, I also have a exclaimation mark on my RCA cable modem if that helps. It also cannot be uninstalled as above. Same error messages. Comcast has not been able to help.
Do I need to do a XP repair?
