    Hi there. :)

I'm trying to finish repairing my mom's laptop before I return to California this Friday. Kestrel was kind enough to help me with the malware, and now I have one last problem to fix.

I tried to update her Quicktime, and the laptop froze. I tried to uninstall Quicktime and the laptop froze. I have been unable to do anything with it without the laptop freezing.

Secondly (and I THINK it is related), McAfee freezes whenever I perform a FULL SCAN (Quick Scan is able to finish completely). It stops between 22% and 23% complete. I noticed this last time that it froze, it was trying to scan Quicktime components. I have already uninstalled McAfee and reinstalled it. Before reinstalling it, I also ran CC Cleaner.

Anyway, I know it's short notice as it is Wednesday night and I have to fly out Friday morning, but any help you might be able to offer in the interim would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Here are a few specs:

    Toshiba
    Windows Vista, SP 2
    3.00 GB
    32-Bit

I have already completed all malware removal instructions and have been told my logs are clear by Kestrel.

Thank you so much for any help you can offer! :)

If you are looking to further clean the system and boost the speed here is a few things that will help.

First item is advance system care---->>>http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5927

I use it once a week to keep my system in top performance.

Second item is IObit Smart Defrag.--->>>http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5318

I would install both programs there is special tools in ASC that can help Delete stuff that can not be deleted in the normal way.I would run both in safe mode.this way nothing is inter fearing with the cleaning.

Now when you remove stuff.like the Quick time it will leave registry be hind. Here is how i manually do it.First open the regedit. While your in the registry editor at the top of it go to Edit option then in Edit option click on Find in the Find what option put what ever item you are trying to remove and search multiple times UN-till it no long can find the registry. In the right box delete what ever is highlighted blue they are the ones you want to delete. Just right click on the highlighted blue item and click on delete.

Then use this program http://www.majorgeeks.com/Everything_d7787.html Everything to make sure all files and folders are cleaned out.

Wow! Thank you both for the prompt responses!

I just tried uninstalling it in SAFE MODE and was given this dialog box:

"The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I will first try the uninstaller posted by Nick T (I'm just doing it in order). ;) And if that doesn't work, I will then try the things in the next post. (Might be good to do those performance care items on my own PC! Thanks!)

I will post again how things turn out. Thanks! :)

Eek! That Revo Uninstaller was attempting to utilize QuickTime's built in Uninstaller, but it crashed the laptop and gave me a blue screen of death that said it was doing a memory dump (I think that's what I read) and a bunch of other stuff. :S So, that didn't work. *sigh* What is wrong with QuickTime!? It's supposed to be a legitimate program from a legitimate source, yet I'm having an unbelievably difficult time with it. Ugh. :(

Okay, I shall try the next recommendations.

    EDIT:

Oh, wait. Those other options will only help the computer run more smoothly, but won't actually uninstall QuickTime. I will do those things after I resolve this issue. ;) Thanks.

    Any other ideas anyone?

I apologize, but I have no idea what BSOD is?? (I am definitely not an IT person, but can follow directions, understand a fair amount about computers - but am definitely ignorant about a lot of things - and enjoy learning more things.

EDIT: Haha! Nevermind! I'm going on 4 hours sleep and just realized that was Blue Screen of Death. :p However, reading about that program, it seems to me that the information it provides me is too advanced for my puny mind...

No problem BSOD is short for Blue Screen of Death

Hehe. Yeah, I realized that. Haha. Thank you.

However, any information that provides is going to be too advanced for me to understand. :(

Okay, I tried using the Advanced System Care IObit Uninstaller, and it did the same thing the Revo Uninstaller did; it tried using the program's uninstaller, which continues to freeze (but I did not get the blue screen of death this time. ;) ). I am still unable to do anything with QuickTime.

    Any other suggestions out there?

Thank you for the idea! Unfortunately, the Fixit program freezes when it's attempting to uninstall QuickTime. Just like all the other times I tried to uninstall it. :(

I fly out tomorrow, so I was hoping to find a fix for this issue on her PC. Hmm. I'll keep trying. Thanks again, everyone!
