I have purchased a domain name from go daddy.
I have switched the dns and managed to upload a page to the internet etc via expression web 4.
When i go to the web address i am shown a go daddy logo etc and some text but not my page that i uploadd ?
My neighbour and two friends have also tried the web address and they are able to view it no problem.
I have cleared my cache & cookies twice and both times restarted the pc and waited say 1/2 hour but still the same.
I phone go daddy and a lady told me that the switch over takes between 24 - 48 hours.
I switched the dns last night so yes its only 12 hours ago.
The lady was also able to view the page ?
If 12 hours is to soon why can she see it & also my friends but not me ??
The address in question is shown below is you wish to take a look and avise, many thanks.

    Hi

Sometimes DNS replication can happen quick for some and not for others, what I would try if you don't see your webpage yet is to flush the DNS resolver cache again (I get to se your site ok) and use CCleaner and its cleaner to dump all the temp files.

Close any browser windows flush the DNS (to do this and if from Windows Vista/7/8 then right click CMD and choose Run as Administrator and then at the prompt type ipconfig /flushdns and hot enter) and then try your site again.

    Hi
I have flushed dns again but it made no difference.
I had to enter the ip address and domain name in a host file.
I found this on the internet.
I read the pc will look at this file first before using the dns settings etc.
    This now works for me.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Thanks for that info, theoretically you should not have to add a IP to the HOSTS file, but if its getting you to your website then great.

Quick question do you have Spybot S&D installed at all?

    I flused the dns.
    I ran avg etc
    Yes i do have spyboy s & d ?

I went into the folder where the host file is,opened it with note pad then added the ip in the text file.
I saved the text file and thats where i left it.
I did this because i could not edit the host file itself.
If i remove the text file from this folder and paste it onto the desktop etc, flush dns again might it then be ok ?
If not i could just put the text file back.
Obviously it nice to have it running as it should as in the future i will forget what i did.

    Hi

If you are on Windows Vista/7/8 then the HOSTS file can be difficult to edit due to security restrictions, you need to either open Notepad up as Run as Administrator or run this app the same way HOSTSMAN (free) and a good app, I use this app.

Reason I asked on Spybot is that it blocks changes to many areas like HOSTS, Registry changes and also by design blocks some sites, so just as a test, remove the IP for your site from the HOSTS and then disable Spybot from loading at boot and reboot and see if you can then get to your website ok.

Or in Spybot click Mode > Advanced Mode >Tools > Hosts File and highlight your site if listed and click remove selected.

If not then your workaround is fine.

Whilst waiting for a reply i did the following.
Removed the text file from the folder where the host file lives.
    Put in onto the desktop.
    Did ipconfig/flushdns
    restart pc

I checked that no text file had been duplicated etc in the folder where i removed it just in case and nothing there.
I went to my bookmark for my web page and it works.
I did not believe it so i restarted the pc whilst i went to the shops.
Upon return i tried it again and its still working.

I assume what ever it was has gone ?
I assume i can now delete the text file which has the ip address in now as its working ?
