Unanble to conect to AVG to get updates

Hi folks, Can you help, my virus protection ran out so I istalled the free AVG, it installed ok but since then I can`t log on to the website, or recieve any updates, not even from windows, also the screen keeps freezing, if I go onto google and do a search, no matter what I click onto I get directed to another site...aaaaaarh (he said calmly

Also I get a window which says google installer has encounted a problem and needs to close, your help would be greatly appreciated

Generally speaking, when you get redirected to different web sites, it's caused by a virus or malware. Use this guide to check for and remove any malware. If the system is clean at least you'll know one way or the other, and we can then try to get the problem sorted out. If you do have malware, then we know that the root of most (if not all) your problems was caused by virii...
