Hi, this is my first time to here and compared to everyone here I am a novice pc user so please be patient with me!:-o My pc is really quite old and is having a few glitches lately. I thought the main problem was overheating but after reading alot about temps I see mine is ok. The pc shuts itself down without any warning and restarts itself. There is no specific thing I am doing to trigger it, it happens quite randomly. I downloaded Everest Home Edition but unfortunately I can not understand what it is telling me! I see that there is an icon, a blue-ish circle with a yellow "X" in it, next to "Direct X" and "3D accelerator". Everything under the "Direct X" heading has the same icon next to it. Does that mean there is something wrong with these items? Could that be the problem?

    Hi and welcome to MG's,
Don't worry about being a novice, we all were once :-D, I am to still a relative novice but have learnt a great deal from this site, read and take what is written in, in, threads ;).
Any way I need for you to do this for me so I can look at what everest is showing you ok.....

    please run everest ..... http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Add the report in your next post like this.....

    Hi minxabroad!

You can check you system component temperatures (and other specs) with these tools. I have both installed.

    HWMonitor

    Speccy

Hi and yes you attached the post correctly thanks ;).

I cannot see any issues that you could be having with anything that is in the report, all seems to be there and working as it should be.
As mjnc has suggested the other tools for getting a scope on what the temp's are on the hardware inside your machine, run either one and post the results here ...... I actually use speccy for system info but the reson why I asked you to run everest for the info on your machine is that speccy leaves a lot of inf out when run on older OS's like XP, but it will give the temps that the machine is running at, try to leave the machine running for around 15-20 min's before running speccy to get a decent temp reading.....
Download the free, Speccy http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...s&txt=http://majorgeeks.com/Speccy_d6358.html then run Speccy and click File > Save as Text File, then attach the log as per instructions below (note: as Speccy also now lists more data it likely will have your Windows licence serial key also in the log, so look for Operating System and under that Serial Number and delete the code and Save the log)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

download and install this driver also it will sort the dirx error/3d error .....

Hi, thank you very much for checking that out for me. I did download the Nvidia. It said the driver was already on the pc but I overwrote it anyway just in case something was missing. everest gives the temps so I didnt download "Speccy" but if you need some info that is not included in the Everest Report attached below just let me know.
