    Hi,

When I login at the start of the day there are some processes occurring on my pc that use all the memory. These processes go on for some time (the never ending cursor spinning circle) and make it very difficult to work.

I have tried to locate the processes so that I can close them and do some work, but I cannot locate them. I have used Task Manager and Performance Manager. It cannot be Defrag because this programme is set to run once a week, my problem is daily.

Once the memory hogging activities have ended, the pc runs well.

How can I stop them - even should I.

    Thanks

    A

Ps. The pc is malware and virus free according to Malwarebytes and Avira.

If you have ordered the Processes tab of Task Manager in CPU order (click on the CPU column heading) and nothing obvious then try booting with all peripherals disconnected, including USB. You might also try booting in safe mode. Let us know.

    Regarding CCCleaner

Under Applications (tab), I have Google Chrome checked, but I do not use this browser, I assume that I should uncheck these?

Under Application( blue), I don't have the programmes that are checked, so I assume that these should be unchecked as well.

I don't understand how I can use CCCleaner to see what is starting up!

    Best wishes.

When I click on the CPU column, I see two number side by side, I assume that these correspond to two processors in the cpu.

What am I looking for here?

    Thanks.

    best wishes.

Open Ccleaner, click Tools, then click Startup. Your startup items are listed.

    Hi

is this the Vista PC as listed in your signature line?if not what Windows OS and Service Pack is it?

What I would use is Process Explorer and look to see what is using CPU process % so a high one is likely your culprit.

Very possible that some startups are not needed and some security ones can bog down a PC at startup as rightly they are updating and scanning so to get a feel of what your startups are please follow the below as written and attach your log.

Don't always take one anti-malware application as the be all and end all, maybe worth running the Majorgeeks malware guide and posting a new thread in the malware forum with the logs needed for a full all clear.

    Thanks to all for responding.

I enclose a couple of images.

The Task Manager shown is when the pc is working well.

The CCCleaner image shown shows some processes disabled. I disabled these just to see if there are any changes, I have not yet re-booted so cannot tell. Previously, everything shown here was enabled.

The CPU requirements seem always to be low, it is the memory which tends to maximum, if that helps.

    Best wishes.

Ps. The OS is as listed in my signature.

    Forgot to mention.

There are a couple of programmes listed in Task Manager: update.exe. One uses quite a lot of memory, the other (same name) uses much less.

There are also a number of svchost.exe programmes running.

    Hi

I would and using CCleaner or Msconfig disable or delete the following, but DID you boot into safe mode and check that you did not get the same issues as safe mode will highlight issues in Windows?

    Things I would disable/delete are:
    Dell Support
    ehTray
    Surface vector clock
    ECentre
    IAAFnotif
    ISUSPM Startup
    ISSUSScheduler
    NvcplDeamon
    NvMediaCentre
    SygmateSysTrayApp
    SunJavaUpdateSched

Once disabled or deleted reboot and test

Click off I have no ideas what that is or its purpose so please advise and links to the app are good.

    Thanks for replying,

Click off is a small application that enables me to close bothersome windows automatically as soon as they appear, for example, adverts.

There are other progrms that I could also disable ( I have not deleted anything, so I can always turn the options back on).

I use Firefox not Internet Explorer (although I keep it just in case I need it for some sites), so I could disable all Internet Explorer entries.

I do not use the Google Chrome browser either, so I could disable the entries here as well.

What does the Uninstall button do on the left?
What would happen if I clicked the Drive Wiper.

I have not tried Safe Mode.

With such limited RAM (1GB), I think it best to reduce the demands on the system.

I thought CCleaner was just a drive and registry cleaner, but it seems to be so much more.

I assume that System Restore on the left, would allow me 'to go back in time'.

    Best wishes.

Ps. When you advised disabling certain Windows programmes, how did you investigate them?

It would seem that you have lot of Toshiba bloatware running... I would get rid of (uninstall) as much as possible.

I am surprised, I am using a Dell machine.

    How can you tell?

"I am surprised, I am using a Dell machine."

Have a look at your first attachment from CCleaner under the "File" column and see the number of Toshiba entries listed there. How come thet are on a Dell machine?

If I clicked Drive Wiper would it overwrite immediately, or would I see options. What is the point of overwriting free space? - I am asking only out of interest.

When you say it is not a good idea to disable IE because it controls updates, do you mean for IE updates, or Vista updates - I think in my case IE is part of Vista - older machine.

    Best wishes.

You don't need IE for Windows Update in Vista or higher, but you still can't uninstall it.
