    Hi

Been going through your protection advice, and have decided to uninstall AVG and go for another Virus Protector that does not take up so much room (may resort back to Avast), or would you suggest a better one?

Before I do it, could you please advise, will doing it through add/remove programmes totally get rid, or does it have some sort of self protection to stop full removal which therefore means I have to use a special programme to remove all traces of it. Thanks

Right thank you, thats answered my Protection question, but also could I have some advice on Firewalls. Sorry to be a pest, but I really want to get this right. Should I turn off windows firewall as I am going to install one of your recommended firewalls. However I note you say it is important that I only run one firewall so as not to cause problems

If I install avast, does it have it's own firewall which negates having to install a separate one?

Do you know how I can look for any other firewalls I may have hidden built in to other stuff. As far as I can see the only other security I have is Window washer, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes and CCleaner and I gather these are not firewalls. Do my browsers Firefox, Google Chrome and IE7 have firewalls in them I need to turn off so as not to conflict?

    Thanks again

Nope, none of the above - including avast offer firewall protection.
What fire wall have you decided to go with. Windows has its own firewall. if you feel you may have installed a third party firewall, it would show in the system tray and in add/remove programs.

What OS are you on? From control panel's, "system and security" you will see what firewall is running.

    Cheers..

    Hi again

I tried using the link you suggested but it would not run, I have however tried to remove AVG another way and when I checked in search from the start menu, I found a load of leftover AVG bits, most of which I was able to delete except th following
    AVG free 9.0
    avg_free_stb_all_940_cnet
    avg remover
    avg remover
    AVG
    avg8
    avg9

When I click delete I get a message "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk

    I am on XP

Great, all done, must have just been an awkward link. AVG seems to be all gone, and Avast now installed, just going to go to the recommendations and install a firewall and I should be protected. However, still seem to be having he problem of the window coming up on startup saying one of the office apps has encountered a problem and has had to close. None of them are in the automatic startup folder so this is odd. All the cleanup procedures have been carried out, but this problem still persists. Any ideas?
