Uninstall first?

This may be more accurately placed in the driver forum.... anyway, a friend recently had a problem with his NVidia drivers, and WinXP crashed to a BSOD and listed one of the driver files (I think it was nvdisp.dll). Booting with Last Known Good Configuration fixed the problem. I told him to reinstall the drivers just to be safe, but he said "should I uninstall the current drivers first?". I said "that's a good question. I don't think you HAVE to, but it's probably a real good idea". So, what do all of you fine folks think? Uninstall first? Or just install the new driver 'on top' of the current driver?

    Hi

Don't know if this is a Vista driver thing or not but all the latest Nvidia drivers I have installed, actually run an uninstaller first to remove the old driver, then reboots and installs the new.

But previous to this when on XP, I never really uninstalled Nvidia drivers, I just installed new over old they always updated fine for me on XP.

If you use the Nvidia installer it will uninstall the old first.

If you use Windows own 'update driver' route the old drivers will still be there and have been known to lead to problems.
